Recently, Stanford University in the United States and Elsevier, an international prestigious academic publisher, released the List of Top 2% Scientists in the World 2023. Professor Qu Zetang from School of Materials and Chemical Engineering, Professor Wei Kexiang from School of Mechanical Engineering, Dr. Zhang Bin from School of Electrical and Information Engineering and Dr. Zou Hongxiang from School of Mechanical Engineering were selected into the list as the top 2% influencial academians of their disciplines in the world.

The list of the top 2% scientists in the world is crafted by Elsevier and Professor John P. A. Ioannidis of Stanford University, which is published on Elsevier's Mendeley Data website. Based on Scopus data, the list forms a comprehensive score with consideration of six key indicators, such as the number of papers cited, h index, hm index, the ranking position of authors in the results, and the number of papers cited in different positions of authors. It focuses on the citation influence of scholars and the contribution of authors, and selects the top 2% scientists in the world. This list is a multi-dimensional display of scientific research status from the perspective of scientists, aiming at providing a measure of scientists' long-term scientific research performance, which can objectively and truly reflect scientists' global influence and outstanding contributions to the development of related fields.

The list collected data from 1960 to 2023, valuing scientists from 22 scientific fields and 176 sub-directions. Each scientist falls into one field and two sub-directions.
