Forging a New Chapter in Industry-Education Integration — HIE Holds Meeting to Advance Development of New Liberal Arts

On the morning of May 21, a progress meeting was convened in Room 311 of the Electrical Building to accelerate the development of new liberal arts at the school and respond to emerging needs for fostering new quality productive forces. Yi Bing, Vice Secretary of the CPC HIE Committee and President of HIE, presided over the meeting.

During the 2024 National Conference of Higher Education Deans, the Ministry of Education delineated specific objectives for advancing new liberal arts disciplines this year. These initiatives encompass initiating the formulation of teaching guidelines for humanities disciplines, restructuring curriculum frameworks, and enriching educational content. The ministry urged synchronized efforts across national, provincial, and institutional levels to expedite reforms and innovations in higher education. Their goal is to elevate the quality of talent cultivation and establish a robust foundation for a high-caliber higher education system.

During the meeting, Director Fang Zhengjun from the Academic Affairs Office delivered a presentation on “Promoting the High-Quality Development of New Liberal Arts at Local Application-oriented Universities through Industry-Education Integration.” She outlined the school’s progress in developing new liberal arts from such aspects as significant milestones, key characteristics, advancements in discipline development through industry-education integration, curriculum reform, innovative models, and the achievements to date. She also proposed future plans, including continued optimization of curriculum systems, fostering industry-education integrated projects, establishing modern industry colleges for humanities disciplines, and advancing digital transformation across majors.

In his concluding remarks, President Yi emphasized that talent cultivation is the school’s core mission, highlighting the importance of nurturing high-quality individuals who meet the demands of the modern era. He emphasized that the essence of developing new liberal arts lies in adapting to contemporary needs and addressing emerging challenges. President Yi underscored the significance of aligning the construction of new liberal arts with the school’s practical requirements, focusing on core disciplines, aligning with industry trends, and fostering distinctive characteristics. He stressed the necessity of strategic planning, enhancing institutional mechanisms, utilizing industry-education integration effectively, and advancing the high-quality development of new liberal arts at the school.

The meeting was attended by department heads including those from the Academic Affairs Office (Office for New Engineering and New Liberal Arts Construction), Enrollment, Employment, Innovation, and Entrepreneurship Guidance Office, deans of humanities-related colleges, public courses schools, and deputy deans responsible for teaching.
